Every academic journey begins with a choice. For Ms. Le Thi Diem Mi, an alumna of the English Language Program, School of Languages, Tan Tao University (TTU), choosing TTU laid a strong foundation that enabled her to pursue her academic aspirations and build a successful career in education.
Today, Ms. Diem Mi holds a Master’s degree in Linguistics and serves as a Lecturer at Tan Tao University, where she now mentors and inspires students in the very classrooms that once nurtured her own dreams.
Reflecting on her years at TTU, Ms. Diem Mi recalls that her transition to university life was both exciting and challenging. However, the supportive academic environment at Tan Tao University gradually helped her build a solid knowledge base, develop critical thinking skills, and discover her own potential.
According to her, the English Language Program offered far more than language proficiency. It provided valuable insights into the history, culture, and evolution of the English language. Courses on the historical development of English opened up a fascinating intellectual journey, helping her realize that learning a language extends beyond vocabulary and grammar—it is also about understanding the development of language, people, and societies throughout history. These experiences strengthened not only her communication skills but also her analytical thinking and broadened her perspective on both academic and personal growth.
Beyond academic knowledge, she especially values the collaborative projects and group assignments that were an integral part of her undergraduate education. Working with classmates on presentations, research projects, and coursework enabled her to develop teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and public speaking skills. These competencies have become essential assets throughout her academic and professional journey.
After graduating, she began her career at TTU as a Teaching Assistant, supporting both faculty members and students to ensure high-quality teaching and learning. This professional environment allowed her to further develop her expertise while reinforcing the value of the knowledge and skills she had acquired during her years as a TTU student.
Driven by a lifelong passion for learning, she continued her academic journey by pursuing and successfully completing a Master’s degree in Linguistics. Her graduate studies enriched her academic perspective and provided valuable experience in language research and teaching, further preparing her for a career in higher education.
Returning to Vietnam as a Lecturer at Tan Tao University, she is committed to inspiring students, sharing practical experiences, and supporting them throughout their academic journeys. For her, teaching at the university that played such a significant role in shaping her own career is both a privilege and a meaningful opportunity to give back by passing on the values and knowledge she once received.
