As stated by Joseph Chilton Pearce, “Play is the only way the highest intelligence of humankind can unfold.” Through play, students have an opportunity to efficiently practice what they have learned in a variety of entertaining forms. TTU English Club (TEC), previously called FSC, was founded in the aim of creating a playground for all TTU students to practice their English skills through various forms of play like: vocabulary games, grammar games, songs, dramas, group debate, presentation, stories, quizzes etc.
TEC has been currently run by 18 students from School of Humanities and Languages, School of Business and School of Engineering. Each of these members is in charge of specific tasks including collecting funny English stories, songs, films or riddles; preparing speaking activities, vocabulary activities, reading activities and grammar activities; collecting and sharing scholarship information as well as other social activities; posting photos and the contents of TEC’s sessions to face book; searching and sharing the websites of learning English, recruiting new members, transcribing the meetings’ minutes, writing journal entry etc. Joining in the club in the role of the leaders, not only do students have a chance to develop their leadership skills but they are also likely to enhance other soft skills like teamwork, conflict-solving, public speaking, event organizing and other social skills. Annually, TEC opens the door to those who want to be a part of the executive board through the specific process of recruitment.
Annual Speak-up Contest: the contest is annually organized in the aim of forming a playground for all TTU students to perform their capability of presenting a long-turn talk, debating with a partner, defending a point of view about social, economic and political issues.
Biweekly sessions:
TEC’s session is biweekly organized and informed via face book and email. A plethora of intriguing activities are designed for participants to practice English skills. Those who are interested in joining each session are encouraged to send your notes to our email: fsc.ttu@gmail.com
The participants will be devotedly instructed and supported by the leaders whenever they get obstacles during each TEC’s session. What reason are you procrastinating for? Come and join us!
“To be good together” project:
The leaders are paired with TTU freshmen to practice speaking English and cram for the TOEFL exam together. This session is conducted for at least one hour at the dorm.
This is a community project in which TEC members have been giving hands to financially and emotionally support the orphans of Tam Duc orphanage https://www.facebook.com/maiam.tinhthuong/about . The objectives are to enhance the spirit of mutual support and to encourage the young to lead a healthy meaningful life. Along the way, TECers have offered some free labour days during the stage of constructing the new home for the orphans at Duc Hoa, Long An. Especially, the fund-raising project by Nguyen Tran Phuong Tram successfully collected more than 6 million dongs from the capital of 150,000 dong through selling lucky hand-made bracelets to donate the orphanage.
TEC’s other activities
- Sharing funny stories, English lessons via face book.
- Addressing English riddles.
- Forming test prep cramming groups.
- Organizing test prep periodical contest with prizes.
- Showing movies in English.
- Singing karaoke in English.

English for Change is a group of students of Tan Tao University founded at November 2013. The idea has been developed after a course in Leadership and Communications and grown by a business plan contest, which is “Luong Van Can Prize for the Talent”. After getting a prize, we definitely think that it would be real in someday, so we started up.
This project wants to bring a focus and improvement of English communication skills to Vietnamese students, particularly in Duc Hoa, Long An province. We build English speaking and listening program and its application to contribute to the secondary students as an English course. However, this project as well as a student’s business plan does not tend to gain the profit, but it collects a small amount of money to turn about capital and internal development. Up to now, the basic program for forthcoming course is almost completed by TTU students guided y TTU ESL teachers. Also, this project wishes to deliver English knowledge to people as much as we can through volunteer activities such as English teaching to kindergarden.
English for Change has the support and the counseling of contest’s board, TTU Executive Board and faculty who have experience in both teaching and business running. Besides, there are also two groups of students, one is a hardworking core team and the other is an enthusiastic volunteer team. We are all together and cooperate to bring to potential learners the best service. Moreover, we want to contribute our ability to the development of community. The objective of the project is the Tan Duc secondary school, located next to Tan Tao University’s dormitory.
